Bringing Tastes Of History to life...

School Days | Walk like an Egyptian

What will happen during the day?

Egypt, land of the pharaohs, of pyramids, of colossal statues and of vast ancient temples that some may argue are still unrivalled by anything man has built since.  The focus for the day is on being an archaeologist and Egyptologist using Howard Carter’s amazing discovery of the tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun as the catalyst.

As ever the emphasis is on having FUN, using artefacts, role-play, and games to teach history in an engaging and meaningful way.

Egyptian days are a great opportunity for children to come to school in costume.

An Egyptian day can include some or all of these topics:

o Dr Jones, I presume?  An archaeologist's dress code for the desert;
o Dig, dig, dig, digging: tools of the trade and working with the locals;
Reasons to be (or not) an archaeologist;
Let’s go to Egypt: introducing the country and the Nile river;
The Game of Pharaohs: how to become a living god, and dress like one too;
Death and the Afterlife: mummies, beliefs and customs;
Building a pyramid;
Tomb robbers and the Curse of the Pharaohs;
Egyptology: investigating and deciphering artefacts.
