Bringing Tastes Of History to life...

School Days | A Knight's Tale

What will happen in the day?

One
of our most popular days building on the enquiry led “Turrets and Tiaras” topic.  Opportunities for some to dress in armour and handle weapons (safely!) helps develop an understanding of different materials, and how heavy such things are!

“Tilting at the Ring”
 challenges pupils to use a wooden lance to (safely) spear rings suspended from a quintain.  This form of "jousting" really does foster friendly competition, develops hand/eye co-ordination and can build self-confidence as the children attempt something completely new.

“Building a Castle” is a collective project where pupils are guided towards designing their own strong fortification - perhaps to protect the odd princess in a tower?
Afterwards, they will get a chance to breach the castle’s walls with the “War Wolf”, a fully working model Trebuchet!

As ever the emphasis is on having FUN throughout the day, using artefacts, role-play, and games to teach history in an engaging and meaningful way.

A Medieval day can include some or all of these topics:

o Have you got what it takes to become a Page, a Squire and ultimately a Knight?
o Discover about the development of armour and weapons from 1066 until the 15th century;
o Learn to Joust;
o Build a Castle...
o ...and Destroy it!
o
Rescue a Princess from a Dragon (a story if time allows).
